· Hollis Treadwell
Every few months, someone brings in a persimmon driver found in an attic. It is usually dirty and sometimes cracked.
We start by cleaning off decades of grime and checking the head for splits. If it is sound, we sand the face lightly and apply new finish. The shaft gets a new grip, and the whipping at the neck is redone with fresh thread.
Is it worth it?
Often, as a keepsake. As a playable club, less often. We tell you honestly which it is.
A restored head is a pleasure to hold. Some of our customers keep theirs on a shelf.
